Background

Amber has 17 years of litigation and trial experience, first as a partner with the large law firm of Husch Blackwell, LLP and more recently as a shareholder with McDowell Rice & Smith & Buchanan, PC. She works with clients on litigation matters involving all types of financial services claims, commercial and business disputes and general business litigation matters. She also handles complex insurance coverage disputes and advises on a variety of labor issues.  She has extensive trial experience in state and federal courts locally and in jurisdictions across the country. She is an experienced appellate advocate and has argued before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth and Tenth Circuits.

  • Regional team leader in representing Fortune 100 commercial lender throughout the United States in nearly 100 matters including commercial loan litigation, defaults and priority issues.
  • Lead litigation counsel in defense of insurance companies in litigation throughout the United States relating to matters of bad faith/vexatious refusal to pay litigation, coverage litigation and priority/security interest issues.
  • Frequently prepare comprehensive coverage opinions and advise insurers or insureds on various topics involving all types of insurance policies and insuring agreements.
  • Lead litigation counsel for financial institutions involving lender liability, defaults, priority issues, fraud and misrepresentation claims, tortious interference and contract disputes.
  • Lead counsel for factoring companies involving payment recovery and credit insurance issues, including recent litigation involving multi-million dollar receivables dispute.
  • Lead counsel for Chapter 7 and Chapter 11 Trustees in complex adversary litigation.
  • Co-counsel representing national/international product and component part manufacturers in more than 60 matters involving products liability, product recall and catastrophic injury.
  • Frequently advise and defend companies in matters of state and federal prevailing wage law.
